Register on a city or county PlanetBids portal

PlanetBids is software that many cities, counties, and special districts use to post bids and collect vendor profiles. Each agency has its own portal. One login does not cover the next city over.

  • Legal name, DBA, and addresses
  • Tax identifier
  • Commodity or license categories you can actually perform
  • A monitored email inbox
  • Insurance certificates, when a bid asks for them
  • Licenses required for the trade in that jurisdiction
  • A short capability statement and a few references

How local registration fits with state and federal

  • SAM.gov is the federal vendor registration. It is free.
  • Cal eProcure is the California state portal.
  • A city or county PlanetBids site is local to that agency.
  • WBENC and similar certifiers run their own applications and charge their own fees.

What PlanetBids is

PlanetBids is a private company. Agencies use its software to host a vendor portal and a bid board. The address is usually the agency’s name in front of planetbids.com. The bid itself is the agency’s document, not PlanetBids’ and not SupplierStart’s.

SupplierStart is not PlanetBids and is not the city, county, or district that posted the work.

City and county portals are separate

Registering with one city does not register you with the county, and it does not register you on Cal eProcure or SAM.gov. Three cities that all use PlanetBids still means three profiles. Commodity codes, insurance language, and required forms are chosen by each agency.

The same page template covers a single city portal or a single county portal. This example is the shared platform, because that is how most of those local sites are run.

What these portals are for

Local agencies post informal quotes and formal bids, share planholder lists, and store vendor contacts. Some send email when a bid matches the commodity codes on your profile. Treat that email as a convenience. The bid document is what tells you how to respond, and a notification is not proof that you were the only vendor told.

How SupplierStart can help

The free starter checklist puts the core business facts in one place before you create a stack of local profiles. A kit is the playbook when you are preparing a WOSB, WBENC, or California certification package. The $149 readiness review is for a draft you already have: a red, yellow, and green gap report before you submit.

We do not register you on an agency portal, and we do not submit bids for you.
